He has given keynote talks to a truly international client base including Nomura, Credit Suisse First Boston, Vodafone, British Telecom, Lloyds TSB and Johnson & Johnson on the subjects of leadership, motivation, communication and teamwork. Throughout his career, he led numerous land based and yacht based global expeditions, tackling leadership and motivational issues with naval apprentices. Upon Leaving the service Paul was owner and principal of the largest privately owned sailing school in the United Kingdom. He has logged over 250,000 miles at sea. In 1996 he was skipper of the yacht ‘Ocean Rover’ in the BT Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race ‘The World’s Toughest Yacht Race’ sailing some 33,000 miles with an amateur crew against prevailing winds and currents. This hostile environment was used in a unique study into leadership and teamwork, the result of which was the book ‘Global Challenge’ — Leadership lessons from ‘The Worlds Toughest Yacht Race’. He investigates the key elements of human behaviour that lead to high performance.Paul’s knowledge and enthusiasm has successfully moved the concept of enhancing performance from sailing into the business world.
