Suspended 18 times in one year, and then expelled Chris was placed in various institutions by the Social Services and absconding he lived on the streets for one and a half years. He took up boxing whilst at school in the U.S.A. first winning the amateur Spanish Golden Glove Championships in New York in 1984. He came back to the U.K. in 1988 and was with Barry Hearn from his 13th fight to his 43rd fight winning the World Middleweight Title Fight against Nigel Benn in November, 1990. He has become a household name if partly because he is somewhat eccentric nature. What is less known is his great charity work and his Awards including Best Dressed Man and The Tie Pin Award. As well as after dinner speeches Chris has also spoken to numerous Universities, Secondary Schools and Infant Schools, such as Eton, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Trinity College Dublin, London School of Economics, London University and Sussex University. Indeed Cambridge and Oxford both have asked him back numerous times! His hobbies include speaking, teaching, philosophy, reading quotations, fashion, dancing and poetry. He lives with Karron and their 4 children in Brighton where, in 1991,he took over a prime site in the called “Buckingham Place” and knocked down the building keeping the grade II facade in tact and building 69 flats for the homeless, using £1 ¼ million of his own money.
