Responsibilities embraced buying, marketing and training (ask Julie to tell you about the wine courses she ran for InterCity stewards!) One of her favourite jobs, though, was simple — stock control of the royal Cellars on board Britannia! A lifelong ambition to write about wine was realized in 1992 when two local newspapers asked her to write regular columns. Julie now writes for The Sunday Express Magazine, The Daily Telegraph, the Sainsbury’s Magazine, Your Choice, Asda, Signature, Wine & Food, Decanter and Bath & West Country Life amongst other titles. She is also the regular wine expert for a leading internet traditional wine merchant. She has written Classic Rum for Prion,published spring 1999, and New World Wines for Cassell, published last autumn. Julie is a regular presenter for BskyB — in particular The Great Grape Show, A Question of Taste, The Weekend Wine Show, Getaway and Gourmet Guides — and has appeared on BBC1 (The Great Escape), BBC2 (Gluck! Gluck! Gluck!), Open House With Gloria Hunniford (Channel 5), BBC News 24 and BBC World Service Television News. She has also guested on BBC Radio 2 with Paul Heiney and John Dunn, BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours and on Radio Five Live in addition to stints on local radio. A regular wine speaker for Sainsbury’s and Sainsbury’s Magazine’s Gourmet Club, Julie adopts a no-nonsense, fun approach to wine tastings — favourite topics include Best Buys From the Supermarket and the High Street... this, after all, is what most people want to learn more about in Julie's wide experience. However, she is quite willing and able to tackle any wine subject, tailoring her presentation to suit any audience. Instrumental in designing the Passport To Wine & Food weekends for CenterParcs, Julie is available as an expert consultant. She also offers a popular, specialized wine tasting package for corporate bodies who are looking for something different to entertain clients or employees. In her spare time Julie is studying for the Master of Wine exams – she was awarded a Brown Brothers scholarship – and helps her husband run The White Hart Inn in Cross, Somerset.
