Free advice and FAQ

This section aims to answer some common questions we are asked.

If it isn’t covered here ring us on 0845 458 3707, or ask a question by e-mail.

Q) Why should we use you?
A) Because we are experienced, dedicated and fast and as well as offering the very best service in the business we will never rip you off with inflated prices.

In addition if you have ever booked a speaker before, go back and look at the contract. Nearly all contracts have a “no liability clause” which states that they will try their best but can’t be held liable if things go wrong. Hardly reassuring is it! We think it is ridiculous and are quite happy to be responsible for what we provide… period!

We also have the largest pool of speakers available in the UK and our recent investments in technology and staff ensure that you get great service at the very best fees available.

The best answer is of course the proof is in the eating so use Speakers UK and experience the difference for yourself!

Q) How much does a speaker cost?
A) How long is a piece of string! In general quality speakers range from £750 to around £15-20,000 for an “A grade” celebrity. Below £750 and you are really starting to talk about social club comedians trying to earn more or amateurs in the business sphere who fail more than as they succeed.

Q) How long does a speaker speak for?
A) Generally for a after dinner speech the average is around 35 minutes and for business speeches an hour. However each event is different and there are many cases when it will differ.

Q) Are there any other costs?
A) In addition to the basic fee there are often additional costs such as travel and accommodation. We always make clear the exact total costs when you make an inquiry. Be careful as some outfits quote a basic fee and then by the time the mandatory extras are added the cost has doubled.

Q) Who are your clients?
A) Well they are wide and varied and include MacDonald Hotels, BBC Radio and TV, Marriott Hotels, Hilton Hotels, BP, Accenture, The Law Society, The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Clifford Chance, The British Council, Cannon, British Unitech, Shell, Banks Sadler, MacCann Erikson, Beattie Media, IBM, McDonalds Restaurants, Corus, Mobil, Oil State Industries, Hunting Oil, British Telecom, ICL, Guinness, Beattie Media, Webber Shandwick Public Relations, Coca Cola, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, The Home Office, TotalFinalElf, Sedexho, Texaco, Scottish Brewers, Northern Irish Tourist Board, Mothercare Granada, and many of the Councils, Business Links, Enterprise Councils and Universities spread across Britain.

Q) Are speakers reliable?
A) We only work with tried, tested reliable speakers and, except for serious illness, have never had a speaker pull out. Even then we have always found a suitable replacement.

Q) How have you built up such a large base of speakers?
A) The consultants have over 100 years experience between them and have built up wide ranging industry contacts within the media, political, business and celebrity spheres.

Q) Do you represent the speakers exclusively?
A) We pride ourselves on offering you independent advice and guiding you to the ideal speaker for your event and therefore only exclusively represent a handful of speakers whose demand far outweighs their availability and thus allowing us to remain independent in our recommendations. In most cases we work directly with the speakers and some we engage via their personal management.

Q) How long have you been established?
A) The businesses, which make us up, were established between 6 and 30 years ago and we are still going strong!

Q) Can I book over the Internet?
A) No, unless you are 100% certain of what you want, but you can make an inquiry. This is because to get the best result for you we need to work with and gain great insight into your event, company and aims to give the best advice possible so we need to speak with you initially.

Q) How far in advance should I be booking?
A) As far as you can. The better speakers are in heavy demand and get booked up to two years in advance.

Q) What’s your job like
A) Well for a tongue in cheek look why not read the Arena Article.
