In 1996 the circle seemed complete when he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company under Adrian Noble, playing roles such as Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor. TV drama roles include programmes such as Chancer, David Nobbs's widely acclaimed Love on the Branch Line, Sword of Honour and Take a Girl Like You before returning to cinema screens in Saving Grace, Tomb Raider and as the voice of the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter.
